The Webster Health Department announces that the Public Health Advisory for harmful algae blooms (cyanobacteria) in Webster Lake (North, Middle and South Pond) has been lifted. Two rounds of testing by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH) confirm algae levels are now safe for recreational use.
During this event, the Health Department worked closely with MDPH and requested photos and observations from residents to support monitoring. The town is also exploring ways to conduct proactive routine testing in the future to help inform decision-making, though this cannot be guaranteed at this time.
Looking ahead, we remain committed to improving future responses by:
Maintaining coordination with MDPH for suspected blooms
Continuing to incorporate resident feedback and observations
Sharing timely updates through multiple channels
Reviewing notification procedures for clear, consistent messaging
