The Webster Health Department is pleased to announce the Public Health Advisory regarding the Harmful Cyanobacteria Algae Bloom on South Pond has been lifted, effective immediately.

Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH) collected a sample at Webster Lake -- South Pond on Tuesday, 6/7. Laboratory testing showed cyanobacteria levels of 820 cells/ml, below the MDPH guideline level of 70,000 cells/ml. Microcystin toxin level was <1 ppb.

MDPH collected a sample at Webster Lake – South Pond on Tuesday, 6/14. Laboratory testing showed cyanobacteria levels of 960 cells/ml, below the MDPH guideline level of 70,000 cells/ml. Microcystin toxin level was <1 ppb.

MDPH requires two rounds of samples below the guideline level, collected one week apart, to recommend rescinding an advisory. As this is the second low result, the advisory can be lifted.

Thank you to the residents keeping an eye on the water and initially reporting the algae bloom. If you see a possible algae bloom in the future, please contact the Health Department at (508) 949-3800 x4002 or by email at health.department@webster-ma.gov
